COACH’S OATH
“In the name of all
coaches, we shall follow the written and verbal instructions of
Special Olympics Officials at all times, have our athletes at
the appropriate events and activities at the proper time, and
abide by all the Special Olympics official rules and policies,
in the Spirit of Sportsmanship.”
-
Coaches are an integral part of Special Olympics training and
competition. Opportunities exist in particular sports throughout the year and
with teams and/or individuals. An orientation is required. Orientation includes
overview of the Sports Information Guide, which provides training guidelines
and competition detail for each sport that is offered. Please contact us for
orientation dates.
-
Generally, the commitment per sport is an eight-week athlete
training period followed by a local and, if qualifying, state competition.
-
A person who is interested in coaching does not need experience
to become a coach. We will provide training and certification in your desired
sport along with a general orientation and protective behavior class.
Coaches are
required to complete a
Volunteer Registration Form and a Coach & Volunteer Code of Conduct Form
